Graduate Research Programs: Nutrition

Projects with ruminants (dairy and beef cattle) involve research on minerals, utilization of subtropical forages, management strategies for intensive rotational grazing of lactating dairy cows during summer and winter seasons, and nutritional factors affecting reproduction. Other research includes evaluation of by-product feeds in cattle diets and basic studies to better understand nutrient digestion and utilization in ruminants.

Research in equine nutrition involves feeding management and nutritional factors necessary for skeletal development. Additionally, studies are conducted on how nutrition affects reproductive efficiency of the mare and status of the foal.

Nutritional research with swine emphasizes the use of alternative feedstuffs, as well as basic aspects of nutrient utilization. The program also contributes to the regional Swine Research Project.
