Giving: New Stalls for the UF/IFAS Horse Teaching Unit
The UF/IFAS Department of Animal Sciences Horse Teaching Unit (HTU) is a 65-acre farm used to give equine sciences students hands-on experience with horse breeding, training, marketing, management, healthcare, and more. The HTU maintains a primarily Quarter Horse-based teaching herd numbering around 45 head. Offspring from this herd are trained by the students, then sold at the "Sale in the Swamp" event each spring.
A NEED FOR NEW STALLS
One recent expense for the HTU was renovated stalls. Several stalls were corroded at the base and were covered with planks to keep the students and horses from exposed rust. The new stalls are made from hot-dipped galvanized silver mesh and allow the horses and students to remain in a safe environment for teaching and training.
HOW YOU CAN HELP
We are fundraising to recoup the cost of the new stalls. Gifts of $5,000+ will be recognized with a name plate on the stall, recognizing the donor, a business, or in memory/honor of a loved one. There are 20 available, and the naming duration will be the useful life of the stall. There is also an opportunity for gifts pledged $1,000/year for five years. These donors will be recognized on a large plaque in the Horse Teaching Unit classroom.
Thank you for your consideration. With your support, the HTU will continue to train leaders in the horse industry!
