Graduate Assistantships & Fellowships

The Department of Animal Sciences offers assistantships and fellowships to highly qualified applicants on a competitive basis.

If awarded an assistantship, a graduate student will receive a 1/3-time appointment of $20,000/year (M.S.) or $25,000/year (Ph.D.). The assistantship will cover in-state and out-of-state tuition. However, students must pay non-matriculation fees.

While on an assistantship, a graduate student must maintain a 3.0 grade point average or better, and register for 9 credit hours in the Fall and Spring semesters. A minimum of 6 credits is required in the Summer. If a student does not maintain satisfactory academic progress, the assistantship may be terminated.

The College of Agricultural and Life Sciences--along with the Graduate School-team up to offer financial support on an available and competitive basis. These fellowships can amount to $22,000/year and cover all in-state and out-of-state tuition. Students must pursue a Ph.D. to qualify.

Other means of financial support are available from the Office of Graduate Minority Programs and the Office of the Dean of Research at the Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences. The Office of Graduate Minority Programs offers supplemental scholarships (awarded on a need basis).

Additionally, the Davis Graduate Nutrition Enhancement Award is offered to graduate students studying nutrition at the University of Florida.

The departmental policy is to consider all qualified applicants for funding and to reach a decision in a timely fashion following the submission of the completed application, receipt of all transcripts of previous academic work, scores on required tests, and letters of recommendation.
