Graduating this semester?

Make sure you are following the dates and deadlines!

Registration FAQ

  • How do I register for classes? And why am I blocked from enrolling in some ANS classes after my enrollment time opens?

To register for classes, you will need to visit your ONE.UF. Sign in with your Gatorlink and go to Register/View My Schedule, then select the semester you are registering for.

    NOTE:

    • Every student has a registration date and time
      • This is determined by degree completion (credits toward your current degree audit), NOT by total hours earned
    • Certain courses open up by student group, regardless of your registration time.
      • Meaning, you may be free to enroll, but a class is not open to you yet if you don't fit the student group
        • i.e. ANS 3043 Growth and Development of Farm Animals opens to ANS seniors first, then juniors and seniors, and then all ANS students
      • ANS Advisors send out a chart every semester that shows when the ANS courses will open for each student group

**You must clear all holds before you will be able to register or see your registration start time! Do this early, do not wait until registration day to do this!**

  • Where do I find the approved electives list?

All advising forms can be found on the current students page on our website. You can also find these forms in our undergraduate update on TEAMS under the files in the "Academic Advising" channel.

  • How do I register for ANS departmentally controlled classes?
You can request *MOST ANS departmentally controlled classes through the Microsoft Forms that are emailed before advanced registration every semester. They are also available in the undergraduate update on TEAMS.
Filling out the request forms DOES NOT guarantee you a seat in the requested classes. You will be able to enroll yourself in all other classes, depending on their availability at your time of registration. You can find a full list of classes on the UF Schedule of Courses.
Only put your name on the form if you intend to take the class!
An academic advisor will enroll you in the course(s).
NOTE: It is always a goal for advisors to notify students selected for departmentally controlled courses BEFORE advanced registration begins opening for students.
ALSO NOTE: We cannot enroll students in departmentally controlled classes until all holds are released!
*To be enrolled in Horse Psychology and training requires instructor permission from Joel McQuagge. Please talk with him in the spring term if you are interested in taking the class. Please notify an advisor that you are interested in trying out for the class and they will put you on a list. There is NOT a form sent out for Horse P&T.
  • How should I prepare for my advising appointment?

Before your appointment, please prepare questions, review your degree audit, and have a plan for your next semester.

We ask all of our ANS students to make a graduation plan and update it throughout their time at UF. Advising sessions go better when students come with an updated plan. This allows your advisor to better review and give advice during the appointment.

We have created an ANS Academic Plan Template for students to use. But Excel is also a common tool for graduation plans. Whatever works for you!

  • Do advisors have drop-in hours?

Yes, drop-in advising is every Wednesday morning from 9 AM - 11:30 AM in the advising office. Come by for quick (5-10 minute) questions!

  • I'm doing an internship next summer. How do I register for my internship credits?

Amie Imler serves as the ANS Internship Coordinator. If you need to enroll in ANS 4941 Full-Time Practical Work Experience in Animal Science, book an appointment with Amie.

All internships (for credit) need to be pre-approved by Amie before you begin the internship! Please be mindful of the deadline to turn in internship paperwork to Amie. Email her with any questions regarding internship credit: amie.taylor@ufl.edu.

If you are not required to complete ANS 4941, we still encourage you to complete an internship experience. But you do not have to enroll in ANS 4941. If you have already fulfilled the requirement, you may freely complete more internships without enrolling for credit again.

  • How do I find a faculty mentor?

All students are encouraged to build a network with professors here at UF. Our Animal Sciences faculty members serve as excellent mentors for undergraduate students. We encourage students to research our faculty using the people page on our website and make contact with someone whom you share interests with.

TIP: Sometimes it's better to drop by their office and ask if they have a moment to talk with you, or if you could schedule a time to come back. Face-to-face introductions go a long way!

Integrative students are required to have a faculty mentor!

  • How do I enroll in ANS 4911 Undergraduate Research credits?

For all information regarding ANS 4911, please visit this page.

  • How do I apply to add a minor?

There are over 100 UF Minors!

You may request to add a minor after 45 credits earned. Apply to add a minor in your One.UF.

    NOTE:

    • Students must complete a minimum of 6 credits of coursework exclusive to the minor that will not count toward the major or other minors.
    • Some minors have additional requirements for approval, (e.g., a higher UF GPA, etc.). Be sure to review the Catalog information for the minor in your Catalog year.
    • All minor courses must be completed with a minimum grade of C.
